Minimum Wage: Rhodes-Vivour Calls For ₦100,000 For Workers In Lagos

The 2023 Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to raise the minimum wage to ₦100,000.

New Telegraph had earlier reported that Governor Sanwo-Olu on Thursday announced the payment of N85,000 minimum wage to Lagos workers following the approval of N70,000 new minimum wage by the Federal Government.

Reacting to Sanwo-Olu’s announcement in a statement issued on Friday, Rhodes-Vivour said the current ₦85,000 increase is insufficient to address the high cost of living in the state.

Rhodes-Vivour highlighted Lagos’ expensive intra-city transportation, soaring food costs, and high rental rates as key reasons for a higher wage.

The Labour party candidate emphasized that despite Lagos generating 70% of its revenue from taxes, workers see little benefit in public services like education, transportation, and housing.

Also, he urged the governor to focus on meaningful investments for Lagosians.
