Microsoft has called for high-quality data for Artificial Intelligence models to produce accurate results.
The Chief Data Officer for Microsoft South Africa, Dean Erasmus, said this while discussing AI’s rapid advancement and its impact on our world via Zoom yesterday.
Dean pointed out a growing risk of bias, discrimination, and privacy violations as AI becomes more sophisticated; Hence, the need to implement ethical guidelines.
Meanwhile, The Officer highlighted the advantages as a catalyst for efficiency improvement, cost reduction, and innovation across industries.
He, therefore, harped on investment in education and training to fully tap the potential of Artificial Intelligence.
“Without high-quality data, AI models will produce inaccurate results. From an implementation perspective, one of the biggest challenges we face is ensuring that organizations have the right data and infrastructure in place.
“Another challenge is the ethical implications of AI. As AI becomes more sophisticated, there is a growing risk of bias, discrimination, and privacy violations. It’s essential to develop and implement ethical guidelines to mitigate these risks.
“Additionally, organizations need to invest in the necessary infrastructure to support AI workloads, including powerful hardware and specialized software.
“Despite these challenges, the opportunities presented by AI are immense. AI can be used to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and drive innovation across a wide range of industries. For example, AI can be used to automate tasks, personalize customer experiences, and develop new products and services.
“To fully realize the potential of AI, it’s crucial to invest in education and training. We need to develop a skilled workforce that can develop, deploy, and maintain AI systems.” Erasmus stated.
Speaking also, The Chief Security Officer of Microsoft South Africa, Wessel Pieterse, who spoke on The Cybersecurity Landscape- and the A1 opportunity, urged organizations to adopt a more integrated security platform for data correlation from different tools, threats identification threats, and response processes automation.
He explained that this is due to the fact that organizations are seeking ways to consolidate their security strategies.
Wessel noted that they want to reduce costs, simplify management, and improve their ability to detect and respond to threats.
“One approach is to adopt a more integrated security platform. This platform can help organizations correlate data from different tools, identify threats more effectively, and automate response processes.
“To address these challenges, organizations are seeking ways to consolidate their security strategies.
“They want to reduce costs, simplify management, and improve their ability to detect and respond to threats.
“Additionally, investing in security awareness training can help employees recognize and avoid common threats,” Pieterse said.
