Maiduguri Flood, Sultan Calls For Examination Of All Dams In Nigeria

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar II has called on the Federal Government to examine Alau Dam and all other Dams across the country to avoid future Dam collapse.

The Sultan made the call yesterday at the Government House, Maiduguri when he led a delegation to pay a sympathy visit to commiserate with Governor Zulum over the recent flood that ravaged the state.

The Royal father said, ” I want to use this opportunity to commend the Federal Government and other stakeholders that responded swiftly but I also want to call on the Federal Government to examine the overflow of the Dam, as well as examine all Dams in the country to avoid future reoccurrence”.

“We are here to sympathize with you and the good people of Bormo state over the unfortunate flood disaster that ravaged the state.. 2 weeks ago I was in London when I heard about the flood, immediately I came back on Sunday, I said I have come to sympathize with you. Whatever befalls a servant we should accept it as an act of God..

He won’t test our faith, I want to encourage you and also pray that such should never happen again not only in Borno but the country at large”, he added.

He commended those who responded both within and outside the country and prayed that God grant eternal life to those who lost their lives and replenish those who lost their property.

Also, the chairman of BUA group of Company, Alhaji Rabiu Abdussamd has donated N1 billion to the victims of Maiduguri in addition to another N1 billion worth of rice, flour and cooking oil.

Alhaji Rabiu Abdussamd represented by the Executive Director of the Group, Alhaji Kabir Abdussamd.said, ” I am here on behalf of our chairman BUA group of company who is unavoidably absent, he asked me to represent him to come and sympathize with you over the recent flood disaster that killed many people and property worth millions of Naira.”

“We also asked me to donate a token of N1 billion cash and also donate 5 trucks of rice, and flour each, as well as 4,500 cartons of spaghetti worth N1 billion Naira, ” he said

Meanwhile the Gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in the 2023 general election, Senator Aisha Binani has also donated the sum of N50 million to the victims of Maiduguri food.

The state working committee of the All Progress Congress (APC) led by its Chairman, Hon. Bello Ayuba has also donated the sum of N20 billion to the basket fund of the victims of Maiduguri flood.

In his separate remarks, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state thanked them for their sympathy visit and assured them that the funds donated would be judiciously utilised for the purpose intended, assuring that no single Kobo would be diverted.
