LP NCC Backs Boycott Of Anambra Council Poll By State Chapter

The National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party has thrown its weight behind the decision of the state chapter to boycott the September 28 local government election in Anambra State.

Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee Senator Esther Nanadi Usman, in a statement on Wednesday, also recognised Chief Ugochukwu Emeh and the Okoli Akrika-led state executive committee of the party.

Senator Usman stated that the process of the local government election violates the Electoral Act and the Nigerian constitution.

She added that the party’s national leadership was aware that the Labour Party and 14 others, were already in court against the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), “challenging the procedure for the proposed LGA election and never sponsored any candidate to contest the questioned Anambra State LGA election.”

She stated that the Labour Party has not constituted any caretaker committee in any state of the country including Anambra State, and restated that Chief Emeh is the Chairman of the party in the state.
