Lookman, Troost-Ekong Lead Nigerian CAF Nominations Shortlist

October 24, (THEWILL) – Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman will spearhead Nigeria’s representation at the next Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards. The 27-year-old striker features among the elite top ten nominees for the African Player of the Year award, marking another significant achievement for Nigerian football.

William Troost-Ekong joins Lookman on the prestigious shortlist, earning his nomination after clinching the Most Valuable Player award at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations. The defensive stalwart’s exceptional leadership and performances have cemented his position among Africa’s football elite.

In the goalkeeping category, Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United carries Nigeria’s hopes with distinction. His remarkable displays at AFCON and since then have earned him recognition alongside established names such as Manchester United’s Andre Onana and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ronwen Williams in the race for Goalkeeper of the Year.

The Super Eagles’ collective impact continues to resonate, with Nigeria earning a coveted spot in the Men’s National Team of the Year category. This acknowledgement follows their impressive performances at AFCON 2024, where they finished in second place behind hosts Côte d’Ivoire, who joined them in the race for the Team of the Year category alongside Morocco and South Africa.
