Libya, Nigeria Know Fate On Tuesday As CAF Rules On Botched AFCON Qualifier

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to issue a decisive ruling next week Tuesday on botched 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers between Libya and Nigeria, New Telegraph has learnt.

Our correspondent gathered that CAF has referred the matter to its Disciplinary Board which had given an ultimatum to Libya to respond to Nigeria’s petition which bothered on maltreatment that forced the Super Eagles to boycott the match.

Eagles were left stranded for more than 15 hours at Al-Abraq Airport following the diversion of their aircraft from Benghazi. The team alleged that they were practically held hostage by their hosts who kept them at the airport terminal against their intention.

Libya has denied any wrong claiming that the issues were the result of standard air traffic control protocols and logistical challenges beyond their control.

They have also accused Nigerian officials of overreacting to the situation. Our correspondent has learned a decision could be announced on the matter next Tuesday.

The ruling is expected to address whether the match will be rescheduled or if any penalties will be imposed on either federation.
