Lagos Cracks Down On Illegal Structures

The Lagos State government has marked 280 illegal structures for demolition in its quest to prevent the formation of slums, protect the state’s master plan, and preserve its coastal areas. This move aims to restore order and ensure sustainable development in the state.

According to Hon. Yacoob Alebiosu, Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, “All the companies served are occupying the waterfront setbacks illegally, thereby contravening Lagos State regulations.”

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Government on his official handle on X said, the demolition is part of the state’s efforts to maintain its master plan, prevent the creation of slums, and protect its coastal areas from erosion.

Some of the affected structures include Farm City, Jonah Court, DHL, Polo Avenue, and 65 other structures at Admiralty Way.
These structures have been accused of encroaching on the Lekki Waterfront setback, threatening the ecosystem and violating the state’s regulations.

On Saturday, September 14, the government issued contravention notices to over 280 illegal property owners and occupiers in the Mayegun Waterfront Scheme, located in the Eti-Osa local government area
