Kogi: Police ban use of vehicles with covered number plate

The Kogi State Police Command has banned the use of vehicles with covered number plates, as well as unregistered vehicles and motorcycles across the state.

The Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, psc (+), stated that the order became necessary following intelligence reports indicating that criminals hide under the guise of covered number plates to carry out activities that constitute security threats to the state.

He further disclosed that this practice has led to an increase in criminal activities, fostering an atmosphere of lawlessness and concealing perpetrators of crime. The use of covered number plates has become an obstacle in combating crime and criminality in the state by law enforcement agents.

The CP advised owners of vehicles with covered number plates to remove them and urged those without registration numbers to register their vehicles or risk having them impounded by law enforcement agents.

He emphasised that it is illegal for vehicle owners and drivers to cover their number plates or drive without registration numbers.

CP Onuoha urged the general public to comply with this order, stating that the police will commence a clampdown on such vehicles and prosecute offenders. He also advised members of the public to register their vehicles, remove covered number plates, and replace any defaced number plates.
