The Kogi State Government has announced a ban on vehicular movement this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to facilitate a smooth local council election.
Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information, stated in a release from Lokoja on Friday that this measure aims to ensure a seamless voting process across the state.
“The decision is also to guarantee the security of voters and citizens across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state,” Fanwo said.
He confirmed that security agencies have been instructed to enforce the restrictions, emphasizing the need for public safety and accountability for any violators.
Fanwo encouraged citizens to actively participate in the elections to select their local representatives, assuring them of sufficient security while they cast their votes on Saturday.
“We also wish to express confidence in the capacity of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to organise a free, fair and credible Council Poll across the state,” he added.
He urged the public to engage in peaceful voting, reinforcing the importance of choosing representatives through the ballot rather than violence.
“It is pertinent to call on the citizens to make democracy a free will of the people and the power of the ballot over the bullets,” he stressed.
The commissioner reiterated the state government’s commitment to maintaining law and order for the continued growth and development of Kogi State.
