KEBBI State will be hosting the 2024 edition of the National Qur’an Recitation Competition from 19 to 27 December.
A committee of eminent Islamic jurists, academics and technocrats under the chairmanship of the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammadu Mera, met on Monday over the competition at the palace of the traditional ruler.
The emir reminded the committee members of the enormity of the task before them and called for their dedication towards ensuring success.
“I am thanking Governor Nasir Idris for appointing us to promote the Glorious Qur’an and religious tenets.
“We have a big task in front of us. We are thankful to God for affording us the opportunity to advance the cause of Islam bequeathed to Muslims by Noble Prophet Muhammad.
“We beseech God to make the week for the recitation a blessing to Kebbi State and the entire nation. May Allah, in His infinite mercy, drive away all challenges facing our nation,” the traditional ruler said.
He informed the committee members that Kebbi would be hosting people from different parts of the country and emphasised the need for them to discharge their assignment with the fear of God.
“We are under obligation to uphold the trust and confidence reposed in us by our leader, Governor Nasir Idris. We must not disappoint him in anyway.

“I am confident that we are going to organise a befitting competition. I want to use this opportunity to invite all Muslims to come and witness this event which starts on the 19th and ends on the 27th of December, 2024,” the emir stated.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Aliyu, is the deputy chairman of the committee, with the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs, Dr Nasir Kigo, serving as the secretary.
Other members of the committee include the Rector, Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Dr Usman Sani Tunga; the Chief Imam of Birnin Kebbi, Sheikh Mukhtar Walin Gwandu and several commissioners.
A delegation from the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, organisers of the National Qur’an Recitation Competition, briefed the committee on the processes and operational structure of the exercise.
