The English Premier League (EPL) has officially announced the dates for the 2025/26 season, which will kick off on Saturday, August 16, 2025, and conclude on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
In a statement released on Friday, the league outlined significant changes to its schedule, particularly during the traditionally congested festive period, prioritising player welfare and addressing long-standing concerns.
For the first time, no two match rounds will take place within 60 hours of each other.
Also, there will be no fixtures on Christmas Eve, a decision expected to be welcomed by both players and fans.
According to the statement titled “Dates for 2025/26 Premier League Season Confirmed”, the adjustments are part of the EPL’s commitment to ensuring players get sufficient rest during the hectic holiday period.
The league stated: “The schedule continues to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule.”
