November 21, (THEWILL) – The Vice Chancellor of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi, Professor Isaac Itodo, has pledged the resolve of his administration to continue to promote academic excellence and sustain the culture of inaugural lectures.
According to him, by doing so, academicians will be able to showcase their research contributions to the development of the country.
He made the disclosure in a message at the 62nd inaugural lecture titled, “exegesis of phyto varia: The GrundNorm of Phyto-Improvement for Food Security and Environmental Sustainability”, delivered by Professor Celestine Aguoru, of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, held on Wednesday, at the Aper Aku Auditorium of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor described Prof. Agouru, as an academic of many parts, and assured the university community that his administration would continue to prioritise, as well as sustain the promotion of Professors and the culture of inaugural lectures.
Professor Itodo commended union activists of the Nigerian Universities both academic and non-academic for the role they have played in reshaping Nigerian Universities and other tertiary institutions in the country.
While congratulating the Guest Lecturer for his academic milestone, he expressed appreciation to the university community for keeping faith with the inaugural lecture unit, promising to sustain the series, and promoting deserving academics to the rank of professors in a timely manner.
Earlier, the chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the lecture, professor Idoga, affirmed that since the assumption of office, the Vice Chancellor has consistently sustained the tempo of the inaugural lecture despite the economic hardship.
According to Professor Idoga, the aim of the lecture series is for academics to showcase what they have been doing, adding that in the same vein, the university community and guests were gathered to witness what the Guest Lecturer has done to be recognised as a Professor.
