Inter Miami Manager, Martino, Departs Following Playoff Exit

November 22, (THEWILL) – Gerardo “Tata” Martino has stepped down from his position at Inter Miami, citing personal reasons.

The announcement comes after the team’s elimination from the MLS Cup playoffs. Under his leadership, the Florida-based club achieved remarkable success in the regular season, accumulating 74 points across 34 matches to claim the Supporters’ Shield.

The Argentine manager’s tenure, which began in June 2023, brought significant achievements to the outfit, including their first major trophy – the Leagues Cup.

His squad featured prominent international stars, with Lionel Messi leading a contingent of former Barcelona players including Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.

Despite their regular season dominance, the team experienced setbacks in cup competitions throughout 2024.

They failed to progress beyond the last 16 in the Leagues Cup, faced elimination in the Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-finals against Monterrey, and most recently, suffered defeat to Atlanta United in the opening round of the MLS playoffs.

“It has been an honour to work at such a special club, and to lead such a special team,” Martino stated upon his departure.

He added, “I depart with nothing but gratitude for my time here and would like to offer sincere thanks to everyone who made it possible.”

The club has confirmed they have initiated their search for his replacement.

Inter Miami’s qualification for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup remains intact, with the tournament scheduled for June-July in the United States.

The team’s attacking chops were evident throughout the season, with both Messi and Suarez contributing 20 MLS goals each, despite Messi’s limited availability due to injuries and international commitments.
