INEC Begins PVC Distribution For Ondo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the successful distribution of 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, scheduled for November 16, 2024.

This information was shared in a statement on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.

According to Olumekun, INEC facilitated the collection of PVCs across all 203 wards in Ondo State for five days. The distribution was part of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, and the collection process will now be moved to the commission’s local government offices for further access.

The statement urged eligible voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to visit their local government offices to retrieve them. INEC stressed that voters must collect their PVCs in person, as no third-party collection is allowed.

“The commission is pleased to report that, within the five-day period, 55,859 cards were collected by new registrants, as well as those seeking card replacements or transfers. This represents 62.2% of the 89,777 available cards,” the statement noted.

INEC also highlighted that this is the highest percentage of PVCs collected in such a short timeframe since the introduction of CVR in Ondo State in 2015. The detailed breakdown of the collection rates by local government areas has been published on INEC’s website and social media platforms.

Collection of PVCs will continue at INEC’s 18 local government offices in Ondo State from Wednesday, October 23, to Tuesday, October 29, 2024, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily, including weekends. Information about the locations of these offices is available on INEC’s official website.
