The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, has commiserated with the victims and families affected by the building collapse incident in Ibadan on Thursday.
Oba Olakulehin made this disclosure in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade.
In his reaction, Oba Olakulehin described the incident as worrisome and unfortunate. He took the opportunity to express his sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and to all the victims of the incident.
While speaking further, Oba Olakulehin urged the state government and other stakeholders to investigate the matter. He expressed his disturbance over the incident and tasked relevant agencies, such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), to provide necessary relief materials to the victims and their families.
He also called on regulatory agencies and professionals involved in building, construction, and planning to investigate the matter and to implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
The statement reads: “The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, is using this medium to express his sympathy to the victims and families affected by the building collapse incident in Ibadan on Thursday.

“Based on available reports, ten people have reportedly lost their lives in the incident, and several others were injured as a result of this unfortunate occurrence in the Jegede area of Ibadan in the Ona Ara Local Government Area.
“This is an incident that should be thoroughly investigated. It is a tragic occurrence that should be prevented in Ibadanland. The relevant agencies involved in building construction and town planning should fulfill their responsibilities to prevent future incidents.
“I appeal to experts in building construction and planning to ensure that appropriate materials are used and all protocols are followed before, during, and after the construction of buildings in Ibadanland to prevent such incidents.
“I urge the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and other stakeholders to provide prompt relief materials to the victims and their families.
“I also appeal to the relevant professionals to provide necessary support to the victims who are still receiving treatment and to their families.
“It is my prayer that Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria will continue to protect lives and property during my reign. Amen.”
Recall Tribune Online reported that a building collapse occurred in the Jegede area of the Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state on Thursday. About ten people reportedly lost their lives, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
