ABUJA – The House of Representatives on Tuesday commended the Governor of Niger State, Umar Bago, for his significant strides, particularly in the agricultural sector.

The praise followed a brief remark by the Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson, during matters of personal explanation. In his speech, Hon. Benson said Governor Bago’s transformative efforts in the agricultural landscape, noting the substantial impact on both local and national food security.

“Taking the floor, Benson commended Governor Bago for his exceptional dedication to driving agricultural transformation, infrastructural development, and promoting religious tolerance in the state.

He shared an anecdote, revealing that a military general from Cameroon, who had studied at Harvard, recently contacted him to express admiration for Governor Bago’s leadership, despite having no prior personal connection to him.”

In his contribution, Saidu Abdullahi, a lawmaker from Niger State, expressed his support for Benson’s remarks, stating, “Today marks a significant milestone for Niger State. I am honoured to witness the remarkable efforts being made to elevate the state’s status.”

Abdullahi highlighted the state’s agricultural potential, noting, “Governor Bago has committed 250,000 hectares of land to sugarcane cultivation. This, along with other initiatives, positions Niger State as a key player with the capacity to feed the entire nation.”

He pointed out that there is virtually no opposition in Niger State, as the Governor treats all parties equally. ‘He provided cars for us as lawmakers, regardless of our party affiliations,’ he added.
