Highstone University Calls Nigeria To Deploy Intellectual Capacity Into Food Production

LAGOS – Professor Ayeni Edward, the Nigerian Vice Chancellor of the Highstone Global University has said Nigeria is rich in intellectual capacity, having one the highest number of educated professionals in the World that can be harnessed as a catalyst an Agricultural revolution and large food production for its teeming population.

Professor Ayeni made the assertion on Wednesday at the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees and Awards Ceremony of the Highstone Global University, Texas, USA, stressing that Nigeria’s Agricultural sector has been abandoned to the peasants who operate on a small scale basis producing far below the large demand for food and Agro products across the country.

He Said, “Our Agric students are not well equipped to produce sufficient food for Nigeria, neither are we deploying our full intellectual prowess as a nation towards tackling the current food crisis faced in the country, our university is offering a world class academic learning opportunity that would produce outstanding professionals that will be beacons of development in every field of human endeavors”

Amb. Prof. Valentine Iheukwumere, the Africa Vice Chancellor, said the University is based in Texas, USA and also registered in Kentucky, Missouri and in Nigeria, and the Lagos State Directorate of Tertiary Educatio.

Adding, “We do not only offer Honorary Awards but Academic Programmes from Diploma to the Doctorate level and conversion programmes with scholarships for many.”

Dr Yemisi Omoloye, Director, Lagos State Directorate of Tertiary Education, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, encouraged the University to maintain the high standard and professionalism they are noted for, asserting that the State Government through her Directorate will continue to Monitor and Evaluate its performance to ensure core standards are adhered to.

Dr. Smart Ogbonna, the Managing Director, Rocket Petroleum and Energy Resources Limited, said he was there to be conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degree on Petroleum and Strategic Management, expressing that he was certainly choosen because of his long standing practice and achievement in Shipping, Oil and Gas.

Prophet Bello Moses, a Senior Pastor with the Christ Apostolic Church, CAC in Igboho, Oyo State, who was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degree on Humanitarian and Community Services, linked his selection to his long standing activity through a personal Ministry where he ministers to the needy, saying, ‘I have a Ministry through which I minister to the need of widows and running a scholarship programme for indigent students both in Nigeria and abroad, though I’m surprised to be nominated for a honorary Doctorate Degree, I’m however grateful to God for this recognition.”

Bishop Dr. Joseph Akintunde, Senior Pastor of Glory Place Church, Ijegun, Lagos State, was also conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Community and Humanitarian Service for reasons he considered to be his life touching programmes to indigent members of the society, resulting in the transformation of street boys into responsible citizens, empowering the less privileged with entrepreneurial skills and the offering of academic scholarships, he said.

A total of nine individuals were conferred with the Honorary Degrees, including, His Royal Highness Ogheneochuko Morris, a Paramount ruler from Urhobo Kingdom in Warri, Delta State
