Gov Aliyu Pardons 103 Convicts In Sokoto Correctional Centre 

Sokoto State Government has granted pardons to 103 convicts serving various jail terms in the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

Those granted pardons includes 22 inmates whose death sentences were committed to life imprisonment, 22 life sentences reduced to 25 years and 2 sentences reduced by 2 years, while 67 have been released unconditionally .

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Nasiru Usman Binji stated this while briefing newsmen shortly after pardoned the Convicts at the medium Security Custodial Centre Sokoto on Monday.

Binji said this in line with the powers conferred on the Executive Governor by section 212 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 (as altered).

“The Executive Governor has granted pardons to 113 Convicts serving various terms in Sokoto Correctional Centres”.

Those released were on their way to be reunion with their families and other loved ones.

He said the state governor has made a donation of N50,000 to each of the 113 pardons people to enabled them transport themselves back to their respective destinations.

Binji also advised those granted pardons to be useful members of society and hoped their stayed in the Correctional centre has made them change their way if life and make sure they did not commit further what brought them into the centre.

The commissioner said the kind gesture of the State governor is in commemoration of the 64th year Independence Anniversary celebration.
