The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has issued a two-week ultimatum to residents of over 15 distressed buildings in the Iponri Housing Estate, Surulere.

The buildings have been deemed unsafe due to their deteriorating conditions and marked for demolition.

In a statement yesterday, General Manager Gbolahan Oki said the agency identified numerous structural issues in these buildings, including compromised integrity and the potential for collapse.

He said they had ordered residents to vacate the buildings to prevent loss of life and property.

The LASBCA chief said: He said: “Asking residents to vacate distressed buildings to enable us to pull them down is in the best interest of the public.

“The deteriorating condition of some of the distressed buildings poses a great danger as their integrity has been compromised and can give way any time.”

While reiterating the agency’s commitment to enforcing building safety standards, he urged residents to comply with eviction orders to avoid any casualties.
