November 21, (THEWILL) – US President-elect, Donald Trump’s nominee for the position of Attorney-General in his administration, Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz, has announced his withdrawal from consideration for the job.
Trump had on November 13th, announced the appointment of the Florida Rep, as Attorney-General.
Writing in a post on his Truth Social platform, the President-elect, said, “Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System.
“Matt will end the Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations, and restore Americans’ badly shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.”
While Gaetz said earlier in a post on X that it would “be an honour to serve” in the role, a new twist occurred on Thursday.
In a post on X Thursday, Gaetz said, “I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition.
“There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”
