The Federal Government has deployed 2,000 water pumps to drain flood-ravaged Maiduguri and Jere, enabling swift resident returns.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abu Kyari, disclosed this in Maiduguri on Friday.

According to him, the Ministry donated food packages: 50 trucks of rice, 100 trucks of maize, 30 trucks of sorghum, and 20 trucks of millet, to alleviate flood impact on food security.

Kyari lamented the flood’s devastating effects, displacing thousands and destroying homes. “I commiserate with the deceased families and Borno State government.” He noted the sudden flash flood left residents little time to evacuate.

“Approximately 6,000 metric tons of food are being mobilized. The Ministry established the Agricultural Development Fund to assess farmland damage and boost production.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved 2,000 water pumps to aid flooded areas, alleviating hardship for displaced persons and supporting local agriculture.”

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for their prompt response to the devastating floods in Borno State.
