THE police in Lagos State arrested two suspects, including an ex-convict, Samuel Agbaje, on Tuesday for stealing the gate of a residential building located at the Adeniyi Jones area of the city.
Agbaje, who was reportedly released from prison about a month ago, and his accomplice had invaded the residence with his accomplice, one Moses, and removed a part of the building’s gate.
They were on their way to a location where they intended to sell the stolen gate when they were intercepted by operatives from the Rapid Response Squad who were on a routine patrol.
A security source told Saturday Tribune that the theft of the gate had led to an argument among tenants of the building.
He said: “The residents had been fighting themselves about who was the last person that came inside and didn’t lock the gate before RRS operatives led the suspects with the exhibit into the building.
“They were all shocked as to how they removed the gate without anyone knowing. The suspects have been charged to court.”
The squad had, on its Facebook account, said: “Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) yesterday arrested one ex-convict and his accomplice for stealing the main gate of a residential building around 3 a.m. in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja.
“The ex-convict, Samuel Agbaje, 23 years old, was released from Kirikiri Medium Prison in October 2024. Agbaje and his accomplice, Moses, were arrested in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja by RRS operatives on night patrol.
“The suspects were arrested early Tuesday morning after stealing half of the main gate of a residential building in the area.
“They were thereafter led to the scene of the theft. The residents were shocked that the suspects removed their building entrance gate without any of them knowing.
“Agbaje and Moses confessed that they were taking the gate to Agege where they intended to sell it.
