EPP: REA, varsities sign collaborative agreement on sustainable energy

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has signed a collaborative agreement with 15 universities on Phase 2 of the Energising Education Programme (EEP) aimed at providing sustainable energy at a stakeholders’ engagement forum which was held in Abuja on Friday.

The universities are Federal University Technology, Akure (FUTA); University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital; Modibbo Adama University, Yola; Federal University, Lokoja; Federal University Gashua, Yobe; Federal University Lafia; Federal University Dustin-Ma and University of Uyo.

Others are the Federal University of Petroleum, Effurum; Michael Okpara University, Umudike; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU); Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife; University of Calabar and Teaching Hospital and University of Abuja.

The EEP stakeholders’ engagement forum is a strategic, high-level three-day event organised by the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) and implemented by the REA in collaboration with the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The forum discussed strategies to ensure the long-term sustainability of the power plants being deployed across the institutions to ensure that they continue to drive educational advancement and institutional growth.

The forum also brought together Vice Chancellors (VCs), Chief Medical Directors (CMDs), Directors of Physical Planning/Works, Legal Officers from EEP beneficiary universities and other key stakeholders to discuss the critical role of sustainable energy access in enhancing education.
