Enugu State LG poll: Nsukka records peaceful election

The Enugu State Local Government Council election on Saturday, September 21 was peaceful in polling units in Nsukka Local Government.

Though, the distribution of election material started at about 10:38am while voting proper started in some around 11:00am.

Voters in some polling units noted that the election was peaceful and creditable as they cast their votes without any form of harassment, intimidation or inducement by anybody.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote Chief Jude Asogwa, the Candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP) in the election thanked the electoratesfor coming out en mass to exercise their franchise.

Asogwa, at Otobo-Odoro polling units, in Nkpunano Ward Nsukka commended Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for organising free, fair and transparent election.

The PDP candidate said he would accept the result of the election as a democrat in good faith given the fact that the election was free and fair.

“I pledge to accept whatever is the outcome of this election since it is free fair,” he said.

Reacting to the electon, Chief Ernest Ogwo, Labor Party (LP) Candidate who voted at Otobo- Agorumodo 008 polling unit Lejja Ward alleged that election results sheets was not available in his polling unit as well as some other units.

“I am not happy that results sheets are missing in many polling units it’s a minus to ENSIEC” he said.

Ogwo also complained about the late arrival of electoral materials in some polling units in Nsukka LG

Meanwhile, the PDP Chairman in Nsukka LGA, Mr Chris Ezema had expressed satisfaction on the smooth conduct of the election as well good turnouts of voters in many polling units.

Ezema commended ENSIEC and security agencies for their various contributions in making the election peaceful, free and fair.

In an interview with newsmen, Rev. Fr. Simon Ugwueze, Director of Justice and Peace Commission in Nsukka Catholic Diocese, whose commission is one of election observers said that the election was free and fair from his observations in polling units visited

“Not only that the people are voting for the candidates of their choice but the electoral process is free from intimidation, harassment and vote buying.

” I urge candidates in this election to accept the result of the election in good faith since the election is free and fair,” he said.
