Edo Transition Committee Pledges Seamless Power Handover 

The Edo State Joint Transition Committee has promised to work collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition as the outgoing administration prepares for the November 12 handover ceremony.

The inaugural meeting, held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City on Friday, was attended by top government officials and representatives of the incoming administration.

The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, disclosed that the committee’s principal focus is to facilitate a seamless handover process to ensure that the incoming government can immediately begin its work without any obstacles.

Nehikhare highlighted the necessity of teamwork among all members to achieve this objective.

He said, “The primary objective of the Transition Committee is to ensure a smooth handover of government.

“We anticipate the collaborative efforts of all members in achieving a seamless transition.”

In his address, the chairman of the committee and Secretary to the State Government, Joseph Eboigbe, laid out the transition programme.

The transition committee includes representatives from the state government and the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s team

Eboigbe assured the members that the current government is fully committed to ensuring that the handover process is smooth and well-coordinated.

According to Eboigbe, the administration has already taken steps to prepare for the incoming team’s responsibilities and duties.

He further stressed that they will provide all necessary documentation and support to Senator Okpebholo’s team.

Former Deputy Governor of Edo State and the chairman of Okpebholo’s team, Dr. Pius Odubu, expressed his satisfaction with the state government’s actions.

He also noted that the process has started on the right track.

Odubu urged the state government’s team to work diligently in providing all necessary documents and reports to the incoming administration, stressing the importance of full transparency.

“We must ensure that no critical information is withheld. Let us not attempt to hide any information, so the incoming government will be fully briefed and prepared to hit the ground running,” Odubu stated.

He further expressed optimism that with the level of cooperation already shown, the incoming administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo will have all the tools and support needed to start governing effectively.

The handover ceremony, scheduled for November 12, 2024, will take place in Benin City, the state capital.

This event marks a significant political transition in Edo State as the current administration prepares to make way for the new leadership under Okpebholo, ensuring continuity in governance.
