September 18, (THEWILL) – Borussia Dortmund started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 3-0 victory against Club Brugge at Jan Breydel Stadion. The win marked a successful managerial debut in the competition for Dortmund’s Nuri Sahin.

The match remained goalless until the 78th minute when substitute Jamie Bynoe-Gittens broke the deadlock with a deflected shot. He doubled Dortmund’s lead shortly after with a skilful individual effort. Serhou Guirassy added a third from the penalty spot in the final moments.

Club Brugge had their chances, with Gustaf Nilsson forcing a save from Gregor Kobel and Hugo Vetlesen hitting the crossbar in the first half. However, they were unable to capitalise on these opportunities.

The result continues Dortmund’s strong record against Brugge, having now kept five consecutive clean sheets against the Belgian side. It also extends Brugge’s poor home form in the UCL, with just three wins in their last 21 matches at Jan Breydel Stadion.

This victory gives Dortmund a strong start in their ninth straight UCL campaign. For Brugge, it marks their sixth loss in 10 home matches against German teams in European competition.
