The candidates from various political parties have called on the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani to intervene by asking urge the state Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) to reopen the payment portal for the forthcoming council elections, following reports of its premature closure.

Recall that KADSIECOM had set the nomination fees at N2 million for  Local Government chairmanship and N500,000 for councillorship forms, ahead of the elections scheduled for October 19.

One of the Labour Party’s chairmanship candidates, Bulus Bitrus, spoke on behalf of other candidates at the commission’s headquarters, expressing their frustration over the high fees and what they described as “confusing guidelines.”

“These fees are not only a barrier to our participation, but the sudden closure of the payment portal also contradicts section 5.11 of the KAD SIECOM 2024 election guidelines,” Bitrus stated.

He emphasized that many of the candidates are ordinary citizens, not wealthy politicians, who are motivated by a desire to serve their communities.

“The candidates are demanding that the payment portal be reopened to allow them to complete their payments, and are asking for clearer guidelines to prevent further confusion and ensure that community members are not disenfranchised.

The candidates are appealing to Governor Sani to use his authority to address these concerns and ensure a fair electoral process.
