CNPP Urges EFCC To Prioritize Authentic Anti-Corruption Efforts

LAGOS – The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has urged the EFCC to restore its integrity and concentrate on genuinely combating corruption.

The conference made this declaration on Friday in a press release in response to how the commission is managing the case involving the ex-governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

In a statement signed by its deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade James Ezema, the conference stated that the EFCC’s conduct has not only brought shame to the country but has also solidified the belief that the anti-corruption crusade has been tainted and influenced by politics.

“The EFCC’s actions not only brought shame to our nation but also fueled the belief that the fight against corruption has been compromised and influenced by politics,” the statement highlighted.

Stressing that such conduct was “unacceptable” and “eroded the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic institutions,” the organization remarked that it seemed in the case of Yahaya Bello, the EFCC was leaning more towards persecution than prosecution.

The CNPP expressed worry about this approach, mentioning that “this troubling series of events has caused many Nigerians to doubt the EFCC’s true motives.”

Calling for an end to the excessive theatrics in its activities, CNPP insisted that the commission refocus on authentic anti-corruption endeavors and offer transparent and coherent justifications for its conflicting actions.

CNPP assured of its commitment to closely observe the unfolding events and to insist on accountability from the EFCC.
