Asaba : As Chief Monday, Ovie Wiskey sets to celebrate the anniversary of his purported coronation as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, three high caliber Chiefs, led by Chief Super Abinoko, Chief Eyerighenaye Ikpasa, and Chief Emmanuel Umukoro, on behalf of themselves and other members of Idjerhe Council of Chiefs has instituded court proceeding against the Ovie in a bid to stop him from parading himself as the traditional ruler of Idjerhe Kingdom.
In a Suit No: NCH/ 94 / 2024, the Idjerhe Central Oguedion contended that based on a subsiding court judgements, which earlier nullified the instalation and crowning of Chief Monday Ovie Wiskey as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom , the defender is no longer the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom and as such cannot function or exercise the powers or act as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom.
The Chiefs also contend that based on the judgements, they can no longer recognise Chief Monday Ovie Wiskey as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom .
The suits read in part: “A declaration that the Ist Defendant by the judgement, order of this Honourable Court delivered on October 14, 2021 in Suit No: HCH / 30 / 2020 : Chief Angus Omasoro & 3 ORS v Chief Solomon Ojariafe Agbagi & 6 ORS., and the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on May 19, 2022 in Appeal No : CA / AS /216 / 2021 : Chief Monday Ovie Wiskey v. Chief Angus Omasoro & 9 ORS., which nullified the installation and crowning of the Ist Defendant as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, the Defendant is no longer the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom in Ethiope West local government area of Delta State and as such cannot function or exercise the powers or act as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom. “
” A declaration that the claimants for themselves and or behalf of the Council of Chiefs ( Oguedion) of Idjerhe Kingdom cannot continue to recognise the Ist Defendant as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom in the face of the judgement, order and or ruling of this Honourable Court delivered on October 14th, 2021 in Suit No: HCH / 32 / 2020: Chief Angus Omasoro and 3 ORS. v. Chief Solomon Ojariafe Agbagi and 6 ORS.,and the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on May 19th, 2022 in Appeal No:.CA / AS / 216 /.2021: Chief Monday Ovie Wiskey v. Chief Angus Omasoro and 9 ORS., which upheld the judgement of this Honourable Court, which nullified the installation and crowning of the Ist Defendant as the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom.”
“The claimants also claimed against 2nd defendant to withdraw the staff of office wrongly given to the 1st defendant on his installation as the Ovie of Odjerhe Kingdom”
Meanwhile, in a 35 page affidavit to support the originating summon, Chief Emmanuel Umukoro alleged that Chief Monday Ovie Wiskey has set up planning committee for the preparation towards the celebration of his purported anniversary as Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom inspite of subsiding court judgements which nullified his installation.
He said this blatant disregards to court judgement could result in violent crises in the Kingdom if Chief Monday Ovie Wiskey goes ahead.
