GOMBE – The over four-week long strike by the Gombe State University (GSU) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may soon come to an end following a successful agreement reached between the State Government and the Union.

A press statement made available to our Correspondent Friday evening by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, indicated that the agreement has paved the way for the soon reopening of the University.

The State Government, through its Negotiation Team led by Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, successfully reached the agreement after its meeting on Friday, bringing an end to weeks of impasse.

According to the statement, the ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Timothy Namo, confirmed the agreement, stating that the union has accepted all terms outlined during the discussions.

Namo said the process for reopening the university would begin within the next week to restore academic activities that were halted during the strike.

The Deputy Governor commended the commitment of both the State Government and ASUU toward resolving the impasse promptly.

He expressed optimism that the peaceful resolution will foster long-term collaboration between the Government and the university unions to ensure uninterrupted academic activities in the future.

The DG, Press Affairs, explained that the Gombe State Government had previously approved significant funds to address the outstanding needs of the university’s staff in its commitment to supporting education and improving the welfare of workers in tertiary institutions.
