ABUJA – The failure of three states, Kwara, Adamawa, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory to submit their report to the National Economic Council, NEC may stall the creation of State Police.
To this end, NEC has again given a one-week deadline to three states and the FCT to submit their report on the establishment of State police.
Recall that NEC had resolved to adopt a comprehensive reports from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, that would culminate in the creation of State Police.
NEC had warned that any states that refused to submit its report before the deadline, any decision taken would be binding on such State.
President Bola Tinubu had on February 15, 2024, agreed on the need to establish state police as recommended by state governors as part of measures aimed at curbing the rising insecurity in the country.
States were tasked to submit their reports to the council for deliberation and further action.
