The Governor of Niger state, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago has ordered the immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the state owned, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL), Prof. Abu Kasim Adamu.

The reason for his suspension was not immediately know, but feelers had it that the Vice Chancellor’s suspension may not be unconnected with the lingering clash of interests between him and members of staff.

The Governor who is said to be angered by his high handedness and insubordination also directed the suspended Vice Chancellor whose tenure was to expire in the next two months to hand over to the next ranking Professor in the institution.

The embattled VC, It was also learnt, has been locked in internal crisis with the university union bodies over what they termed his ‘high handedness’ especially in the management of the affairs of the institution.

Our correspondent also learnt that the most senior Professor, Hassan Ibrahim, who is the Dputy Vice Chancellor, has been appointed in acting capacity.

Other sins committed by the embattled Vice Chancellor is his divide and rile strategy which according to insiders have created big gap between the various unions and management of the institution.

“The man doesn’t believe in consulting widely before taking decisions notwithstanding that this is a tertiary institution whereby there are different bodies including several unions to consult before taking key decisions”.

One of the non-teaching staff told our correspondent in confidence that, “The Vice Chancellor it was also learnt had few friends and cronies he confides in, he will call them together to discuss and decide whatever he deemed fit to him as far as this University is concerned”.
