The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State says that they are ready for the scheduled Saturday, September 21st, 2024, local government election in Imo State.
The publicity secretary of the party in Imo State, Cajethan Duke, told the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri on Friday that the outcome of the campaign rally finale held at Heroes Square goes to show the level of readiness and preparedness for the election.
Duke said that the party, as part of its readiness, has already nominated men and women of integrity as their chairmanship and councillorship candidates for the election.
He said that the party nominated candidates who understood the genuineness of the people to serve.
He said, “I can tell you that as a party we have done the needful by following the rules of engagement as made available by the ISIEC. So we are ready.”
Duke said that the party has provided the best platform for Imo people, adding that they have no alternative but to believe in the party.
He said, “In line with our culture of victory, tomorrow will not be exceptional, as we must come and vote for their choice.”
The party spokesman disclosed that the party has 27 chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidates as well as 305 councillorship candidates participating in Saturday’s election.
He said that all the candidates emerged through a democratically elected process of consensus, which the party had chosen among the three modes of primaries for election recognised by the party constitution.
He said, “Our party, APC, has three modes of primary election, which include direct, indirect, and consensus, which are already enshrined in the constitution of the party.
The publicity secretary said that the election is not about the local government election but the fulfilment of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s promise, which he made after his election that he would conduct LGA.
Describing the Governor as a real politician to the core, he advised the electorates in the state not to regard the Saturday election as a do or die affirmation but rather as an election that would usher in real governance in the local areas and uplift the living standard of the people.
He advised the electorates to shun violence, tugry, and restiveness before, during, and after the election.
While he declared that there is no single problem in the party, Duke said that all the aspirants who could not make it to become either the chairmanship or councillorship candidate in their various areas have been refunded their money.
He said that while the chairmanship aspirants were refunded with N3m, the councillorship aspirants were refunded with N1m.
