Alleged sexual harassment: Army clears Colonel Abdulkarim of misconduct

The Nigerian Army has cleared Colonel Ishaku Abdulkareem of misconduct in an allegation of sexual harassment made by former Private Ogunleye Ruth against him and other senior officers.
Ogunleye Ruth had in a viral video alleged sexual abuse by her superior officer and other senior officers in the Nigerian Army.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Director of Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed that the investigation found no evidence to support the claims of sexual harassment against Colonel Abdulkareem.

The Army emphasised that the investigation was conducted thoroughly and transparently.

He also revealed that Ogunleye Ruth had been discharged from the Nigerian Army on medical grounds in 2022, before her formal discharge in June 2024.

He cited concerns about her mental health and emotional stability, which had been evaluated by both the National Hospital in Abuja and the Nigerian Army Medical Corps.

He said despite compassionate considerations for Ogunleye Ruth’s , he stated that she continued to spread false narratives and engage in cyberbullying and defamation against Colonel Abdulkareem and other senior officers.

“Ogunleye Ruth has been granted a 50 percent disability claim, entitling her to a 50 percent monthly pension for life, as well as other benefits such as Terminal Leave Allowance, Terminal Packing Allowance, and contributions to the Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme and Benevolent Fund.

” Her Security Debarment Allowance for the period she served has also been paid,” he said.
