Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, has continued to trend on social media following the news of his endorsement for Lagos State governorship position by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL).
The coalition, which serves as the umbrella body for youth groups drawn from across the six geopolitical zones of the country, endorsed Seyi Tinubu to run for the position in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement jointly issued in Owerri on Tuesday by the President-General of CONYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem; the Secretary, Comrade Junard Abubakar; the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Iniobong Sampson; and the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Adeyemo Adewale, the body stated that the resolution was reached at an enlarged meeting of its leaders held recently.
While explaining the reasons for the endorsement in another statement on Thursday, Comrade Ibem insisted that Seyi Tinubu is a man of integrity, transparency, and accountability. He added that Seyi is driven by an overflowing zeal to become a blessing to his people.
The endorsement, however, has continued to spark mixed reactions from various quarters.
Reacting to the development, a youth group under the aegis of the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths issued a statement on Thursday rejecting the endorsement. They asserted that there is no vacancy for a non-indigene to occupy the Alausa Government House.

The statement reads partly, “While we know Mr Seyi Tinubu has his democratic rights as a Nigerian, we condemn the ill-fated endorsement and described it as anti-democracy and a deliberate move by some faceless individuals to deny indigenes of Lagos State right to govern themselves in 2027.”
Also reacting to the development, some netizens have taken to X to air their opinion about the endorsement.
In his own reaction, an X user, @notesbylawal described the development as a dead ambition, stressing that it is just a mere distraction.
He wrote, “This Seyi Tinubu saga is a dead ambition, and if they attempt it, it is the end of whatever mafia that is holding Lagos. At best, I think it’s a distraction from something else.”
Another user, @Michael Emiabata wrote, “I believe the masterminds of this article are based in Imo State and not in Lagos. My advice is that since Seyi’s father is from Osun State, he should pursue his governorship ambition in Osun State or Imo State, where they are clamoring for him to be governor of Lagos State. Lagos State youths are not interested in his governorship ambition.”
“Since when did the office of the governor become an award that some clowns will be nominating Seyi Tulumbu to receive it?” @Imbigup opined.
Supporting the endorsement, @ChiefOses tweeted, “America has had two sets of father-son presidents. John Adams and his son. George Bush and his son. Seyi has my full support.”
