WARRI – Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed his commitment to fostering greater development in the 2025 fiscal year during a recent visit from the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union, headed by President-General Brig. Gen. Mike Ndubuisi (rtd).
The Governor revealed a significant budget commitment of N50 billion specifically earmarked for road infrastructure improvements in the state’s local government areas.
He also noted an overall allocation of N200 billion for road construction within the budget passed by the State House of Assembly.
In his welcoming remarks to the Ndokwa delegation, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of the Ndokwa Nation to his administration, stating, “This is your government. You are integral to our plans. Your presence here feels like a homecoming.”
He assured the delegates that the government would address viable requests, emphasizing inclusivity in decision-making. “As elected officials, we are here to serve the people, and the Ndokwa Nation will not be overlooked.”
Governor Oborevwori highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects in the Ndokwa area, including the crucial Ndemili/Utagba-Uno road, and mentioned the phased approach to these developments.
“Currently, we have 27 active projects in the Ndokwa Nation. We will start work on many of these roads as we enter the dry season, with project awards expected soon.”
Addressing concerns regarding the Kwale-Ashaka road and others, he reiterated the commitment to equitable funding: “This year, we ensured that every local government received N1 billion, and for the 2025 budget, each local area will receive N2 billion.”
Regarding issues between the community and Sterling Oil, the Governor advocated for dialogue rather than confrontation. “I believe in communication. It is vital for community leaders to engage the company and we will also facilitate discussions to ensure adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding.”
In response to a viral video featuring Senator Ned Nwoko, who had claimed discussions on the Okpai Independent Power Project, Governor Oborevwori clarified that they had only met regarding appointments for the Senator’s constituents. “I saw the video and chose to remain silent. Our only conversation was about appointments for his people.”
Brig. Gen. Mike Ndubuisi expressed gratitude for the Governor’s efforts in addressing economic challenges faced by the population and highlighted the appointing of Ndokwa individuals in significant government roles.
He concluded by appealing for further infrastructure development and the consideration of a campus for Dennis Osadebay University in the Ndokwa region.
