2024: Defectors’re Inconsequential To Our Victory – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign organisation in Ondo State yesterday described the political allies of the former governor, Olusegun Mimiko, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, as irrelevant to the success of the party in the November 16 governorship election in the state.

The organisation’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ayo Fadaka, described the defectors as rolling stones which gathers no moss and would not in any way affect the fortunes of the party in the election.

Twenty-nine leaders of the Mimiko political dynasty led about 5,000 associates to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and were received by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The leaders of the different political parties, including former House of Representatives members, commissioners, special advisers, and assistants in the state government during Mimiko’s administration, announced their intention to ditch the PDP and team up with the APC.

However, the PDP, in a statement yesterday, said the team led by Hon. Joseph Akinlaja, has since joined the APC two months back. Fadaka said: “We restate that previous to their action, they were completely detached from developments in our party, even one of them that vied for our gubernatorial ticket was sponsored by the APC which had earlier nominated him as NDDC commissioner at the onset of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, and such a character cannot be considered as an asset to the party.
