Team Nigeria has demonstrated exceptional performance in the Shittu Alao Barracks shooting range in Keffi, continuing to make a record at the 2nd Africa Military Games in Abuja in 2024.
In the men’s 200-meter rifle prone position on Day 4 of the competition, the Nigerian shooting team won both individual and team gold medals with an incredible triumph.
Leading the attack and winning the gold medal with a commanding 217 points on target 9, Sergeant Moses of the Nigerian Army took the lead. Moses held off tough competition from Tunisia’s Seif Azizi, who placed second with 208 points, and led the competition the entire time.
He began the tournament with a solid 52 points in the opening round. With 204 points, Algeria’s Bennatia Kheireddine finished third on the podium.
Nigeria’s shooting prowess was further cemented in the team event when Nigerian Army members Stephen Thomas (201 points) and Sergeant Alex Abakwa (155 points) joined Sergeant Moses.
They won gold in the team competition with a combined score of 575 points. Nigeria now holds the top spot in the shooting medal standings with 16 gold, 9 silver, and 8 bronze. Kenya comes in third with four gold, four silver, and three bronze, while Algeria comes in second with eleven gold, seven silver, and five bronze.
With two gold, five silver, and eight bronze medals, Tunisia sits in fourth place. Nigeria is in a strong position to win more matches when the shooting events come to an end on Tuesday with the Falling Pan competition.
